I am facing one NDMP restoration issue.Kindly find the details follow:

1) We are taking NDMp backup with VBB option on one location.Below is the path configured in the policy.

SET TYPE = VBB
SET SNAPSURE = Y
/root_vdm_1/voicelgrprd_FS

2) we have imported the data to other location for testing the restoraton on other NDMP device.

3) After starting the restoration , we are getting below error.

  • Hi Sagar,

    See the below:

GENERAL ERROR: NDMP Backups are hardware dependent. Restores to other NDMP devices or Operating Systems will fail.

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH56562

NDMP backups are only restorable via the filer OS which created the backup.
Note: NDMP is a standard protocol to handle filer-type backup and restore operation, however the actual backup and restore operation is handled by the filer binaries, and the fact that each vendors (Netapp, EMC, to name a few) has their own filesystem structure and snapshot management, Netbackup would not be able to override the backend operation of filer.

  • Hi,

You cannot restore to a different (vendor) type of NDMP device. It has to be the same. One is EMC , one is BOS?

  • As others pointed out - you can only restore NDMP data to same type of filer.

You will need a similar EMC filer to restore to.
