If Data Domain find out if storage will be presented as Disk with OST plugin on media server(s), or as VTL (Vritual tape library). You last statement sounds like it might be VTL?
If IBM - probably physical tape libary and drives?

Please also tell us OS (Which Unix 'flavour' and version) on your master and media server(s).

Now i have the information about the new product to  connect to NB  as follow :

1- It is IBM TS7610   vtl   with OS IBM ProtecTIER 

2- It is presented as VTL  for proof of concept to test it

3- NetBackup version is 7.0.1 on unix  with Master server unix  hp-ux B11.31

4- NB Media server   (AIX5.3   or linuxback2.6 or  hp-ux B11.31  )  as we have more than one media server

All i  want the whole steps to add and configure the new ibm storage to netbackup ,and then to apply application backup on it .  thanks

it's not like a DataDomain Storage, ok you want to use as VTL.

First you need to do install the IBM storage to master server, and create a zoning to define a tape drives to master server.

if you want to insert a tape drivers to any media server you need to create a separate zone for each one, try don't use a shared between tape drives.

disable a multiplexing, and encryption.

create a size_data_buffer = 262144 and number _data_buffers = 32.

Hopefully the VTL reseller will be onsite to assist with config/zoning, etc...

As far as NBU is concerned, the only requirement is that devices need to be seen and usable at OS level. Configuration is the same as physical tape library and drives.

This is a very long shot man I better recommend you to get someone to do it for you normaly when we try to do this kind of settups without the proper expirience and expertice ends up with a lot of performance issues in the future, save your self some bad time.

this a huge world in FC swiches, you need experience to do that.

You don't zone to NetBackup.

You zone to a server.
As everyone else suggested - get help!
If the VTL is serious about this POC, they should be able to assist.

Zone dedicated drives to each server and the robot to one server that will be the robot control host - don't try to 'share' drives when using VTL (as per WhitePaper posted above).

Once the server can see devices at OS level, NBU can use them. See Device Config Guide posted above.

there is no zone from netbackup, the zone be on FC switch, and after you have finish zone between tape drives on you VTL library and FC port on master server ( with WWWN : search on google to know what is wwn), then you can from GUI configure storage device and everything will go ok.

for any media server you want to add tape drivers do the same as master and reconfigure storage device.
