I have not had issues restoring various data folders with the backup products, but not with the need to restore a crashed server. I am now evaluating BESR 2010 and Acronis - I used the programs to create the restore CD's and completed the test with the Acronis backup, but with the BESR product I get past the point where the boot CD is installing files (in an environment that looks similar to the windows 2008 installation screens/colors) and then it simply stops at a screen which has 2 shades of grey. I have used the downloaded .iso file to create the CD iniitially and then used the internal program's steps to create another bootable CD and they both stop at the same point - this grey screen. The drivers were verified inside the BESR program. The image backup itself seems to have completed successfully. I have read in another post that the server drivers must be supported in windows 2008, but I would believe that if as the Adaptec Perc 3/Di Raid Card was already supported in a standard Win 2003 CD (w/o any service packs) that they would also be present in the Win 2008 CD. If anyone has any thoughts as to what might be the problem so I can complete the test with the BESR product I would appreciate it. Thank you.Where are the existing support packs and patches for 9.1 OK - I UNDERSTAND THAT THE 9.1 PRODUCT IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED BUT - that doesn't mean that the existing patches and support packs should be made UNAVAILABLE TO CUSTOMERS. It should only mean that I can't expect any new items or call symantec and get help. I apologize if there is a place to find them but I looked for an hour and found nothing!!!! If there is no link then how do I call the president of symantec!!!!!!!! unable to restore individual inbox folder - restore error I have a user who accidentally deleted A SUBFOLDER in his inbox. We tried to RECOVER (i DON'T KNOW WHY some of these words are being capitalized) the folder from the deleted items MENU but exchange could not restore THE FOLDER. i HAVE A TAPE FROM SEVERAL WEEKS AGO WHICH lists the folder AS HAVING BEEN BACKED UP. hOWEVER I get the following error WHEN TRYING TO RESTORE the folder to its original location: Final error: 0xe000848c - Unable to attach to a resource. Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again. Final error category: Resource Errors i CHECKED THE error ON THE WEB SITE and did not find RELEVANTARTICLES. I am logged on asADMINISTRATOR which is also the account USED TO BACK UP THE INDIVIDUAL MAILBOXES although there is a different account FOR GENERAL BACKUP PURPOSES. fOR SOME REASON that accounts can't BACKUP INDIVIDUAL MAILBOXES but that is a separate issue-I need to BE ABLE to restore this one inboxfolder. tHANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR THOUGHTS. Re: Removable hard drives storage space -overwriting filesFirst thank you for your post. I have recently been hospitalized and was not up to doing a search. When the disk becomes full the job is queued and waits for new media. It is not recycling the image folders. Is there something that needs be done for this recycling to occur? I assume also that rotating the hard drives would have no impact on the situation since the drive letter remains the same. Thank you in advance.Removable hard drives storage space -overwriting filesI am using an evaluation version of the product with a removable hard drive. I am backing up both files and the exchange with the option to restore individual e-mail folders. The backup job is set to overwrite not to append. I have several questions since I have not used this product. Is it normal for the backup file to be a Windows . bkf file? Secondly-there are various image files created each night, which seem to relate to the exchange components. The core data file is overwritten each night, but new image files are also created and are eating up the available disk space. I would like to know what settings need to be changed so that all the files or overwritten each night? If I set, a batch file to format the drive beforehand that would delete the veritas backup folder as well. So I don't know if the backup job would work under those conditions. Thank you very much.Re: Jobs Failing on unselected foldersBy the way - the version is 5520Re: Jobs Failing on unselected foldersThis is the error Final error: 0xe00084b8 - An error occurred during backup. See the job log for details. Final error category: Job Errors I have just now created the key Domino with the Dword value of Enable Client Support on the remote machine- value set to 1 per 1 of the articles. These skipped files are .nsf files in the Domino client program folder and I will have to see if this corrects the problem, but what I still don't understand is why the program is trying to back them up in the first place since, again, they are excluded. The server that is being backed up has a remote agent and have both the domino server and the client installed on it. The BU Exec server has Service Pack 1 and hotfix 4 installed on it.Jobs Failing on unselected foldersWe have version 10 running on 2003 server. Although the selection list EXCLUDES certain files on another server the backup log says that it skips those files and then fails. I have restarted the services - I have resubmitted the job. I have even added those folders backin, submitted the job and then removed the folders and resubmitted the job. There are the usual skipped files involving dhcp or a temp folder and those don't seem to fail the job. Other than these skipped files I don't see other reasons for the failure. In any event they should not show as skipped files since the are EXCLUDED from the job list. Thouhgts would be appreciated.Re: Backups Are SLOWI have generally been told that the tape drive should not be running on the same controller ast the Raid set regardless of the fact that it is on a different channel. This is aside from the question of whether this will cause the backup to be slower.Basic Question on Adding Remote Agent and InstallingI have spent considerable time getting Version 10 updated for our needs. We have an additional agent license. The only way I see to add the number is to do both a local install and remote install. Without changing any of the existing settings on the local install and just pushing the agent out will the existing local install be left intact and unchanged - will the previous updates remain in effect? Thanks In Advance
