BE 2012 and Data Domain w/ DDBoost
Background: So we have Backup Exec 2012 and two Data Domain DD620's. We have all the required licensing including the Data Domain DD Boost and replication licenses. I have installed the Open Storage Technology (OST) plugin 2.5.0.3 as suggested for the version of BE. Both DD boxes are visable and connected to my BE server. I have foud some documentation and a video that explains some of what I am looking for but not entirely and most of it is for BE2010. The BE 2012 documentation from DD is not up to date yet. I am trying to setup backups as my tape drive has had enough and is not working properly. Anyone I have talked to just says you backup to it, then I continue finding little things that need to be done. No verify, no precompression, some said no deduplication in the job, other said server side dedupe because DDBoost manages it with OST plugin. Too much information and not enough people knowing what to tell me. The DD weekend support guys don't know the software titles they just know the hardware. I need help now unfortunately... Question: What settings do I use for Backups? I have Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, and SQL agents.6.5KViews1like32CommentsVSS Error

Hey guys, We currently have 2Gig set up through NIC teaming for our backup exec setup. When we have backups running, it barely reaches 35-40% of the bandwith. I am using Backup Exec 2010. Has anyone else here set up NIC teaming before? What are some things that might cause slow performance? Are there any specific settings in Backup Exec that may help? Thanks!5.2KViews3likes9CommentsBackupExec & EMC Datadomain
Hello; Nowadays I need to implement a deduplicated disk based backup&recovery solution for a clustered vmware system which is hosting exchange 2010 and AD servers... I have to decide how to position deduplication and backup software solutions together. In some articles I see that Symantec Backupexec and/or Netbackup is used with EMC Datadomain EMC Datadomain has deduplication feature and it's used also as a backup/recovery software. If I buy EMC Datadomain, will I need to another software Symantec Backupexec or Netbackup ? Both Backupexec and Netbackup has "deduplication" feature. If I prefer Backupexec, what's the advantage of Datadomain as an additional appliance?4.6KViews1like5CommentsRestoring Active Directory to a different server Backup Exec 2014
Hello All I'm in the process of writing and testing a DR plan, but I have limited resources. I have an 2 Hyper-v Host one with a virtualised domain controller (vDC) and the second one is DR Hyper -V host. I've done GRT backups using the agents of the vDC but I want to restore to system state (with active directory) to the DR VM. Both Hyper-V hosts are on different networks but share the same media server. I'm not worried about hardware conficts as they are VMs or the Authoritative Restore as covered here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/cc961934.aspx But how do I get this data to the DR VM? Many Thanks Note: The DR VM is an older copy of the vDC with all the services and roles working.Solved4.2KViews2likes13CommentsBest solution to back up Citrix Xen Server
Hello, I am wondering what the best solution would be for the following: I have on Citrix Xen Server host that has 7 virtual machines on it. I am currently using PHD Virtual to back this up to a NAS. I am looking to move to different software for the backups. One of the virtual machines is running SQL and one is running AD and DNS. There is also one physical server that has AD, DNS, and DHCP on it that i would also like to back up in the same solution. What i was curious about is what is the best way to back all of this up? Is it Back Up Exec or System Restore? Or would neither work? I am looking for something that will back up to the existng NAS and allow for item level restores as well as fast restores of full VM's if ever needed. Second question is, assuming one of the two products will work is it best practice to install it on its own server or could it be installed on teh physical that is existing with AD, DNS and DHCP? I am assuming its own server and that is what i would shoot for, but for the sake of saving money i like to know my options. Thank you for your assistance.Solved3.6KViews0likes4CommentsBackup Exec Alert: Job Warning (Server: "DC-XXXXXXXX") An unknown application is deleting files from the following folder:

Hello, After reading a couple of documents including news and Symantec data sheets about Netbackup 7.5, it looks like V-ray is supposed to grannulary backup AD like Exchange, Sharepoint and SQL. There's not so many docs about how to setup this as by default AD backup is included with shadows/VSS backups. I'm able to do grannular backups in VMWare policies, so I can see my SQL databases, but nothing about AD. As someone has some info about this ? Is it working ? Is it a marketing mistake in the data sheets and Symantec powerpoints ? Thanks for your feedback, NHSolved3KViews1like10Comments
