Hi, We recently P2Ved one of our fileservers, prior to which we were able to backup with a job rate of 2GB+/min and a total backup runtime of around 15 hours. Since P2Ving the server, we now only get a job rate of around 900MB/min and the total runtime is now around 32 hours. Does anybody know why the job rate would have drop so significantly? Environment Details: We have gigabit ethernet between the VM host and iSCSI SAN (Dell Powervault MD3200i) and we backup to tape (a Dell PowerVault TL2000) The VM is a Hyper-V VM running on a Hyper-V cluster but we are not using the Hyper-V agent for backing up, just the standard RAWS agent, OS is W2K8 R2 Standard The server BE is installed on is physical with the tape library connect via SAS, BE version is 2010 R3 SP1, OS is W2K8 R2 Enterprise Cheers Adam.Solved1.2KViews7likes4CommentsNetbackups failing with error code 24 on linux clients

Hello, System overview: BKP01 - Backup Server running WS2008 R2 Enterprise SP1 x64 with Backup Exec 2014 Version 14.1 Rev. 1786 (64-bit) SQL01 - SQL Server running WS2008 R2 Standard SP1 x64 with MS SQL 2008 R2 (Fully patched) Current SQL Server instance: SQL01\MSSQLSERVER I would very much like to move the BEDB to BKP01. Currently SQLExpress is not installed on BKP01. I also am planning an upgrade BKP01 to BE 15 if that will give me a path to move the DB. Any advice welcome.1.4KViews4likes7CommentsBackup Exec 2012: Frustrated, Aggravated, and Really Annoyed
We have a fairly simple backup configuration – two jobs, one that backs up multiple servers to a single tape Monday-Thursday, and a second job that backs up some additional data on Friday. This is a single tape drive, with a real live person changing the tape each day. Each of the jobs ejects the tape when the backup stream is finished. We need to back up two Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) V6.1 systems. The Backup Exec Linux Agent included with Backup Exec 2010 will not install on RHEL V6.1, so we need the Linux Agent included with Backup Exec 2012. Of course the 2012 Linux Agent will not work with Backup Exec 2010, so the only solution is to upgrade the Media Server to Backup Exec 2012. Should be an easy upgrade, right? Just learn the new stupid interface changes, and things will be good, right? Wrong. One of the stupidest things about the Backup Exec 2012 installation was the links to videos on an external web site. We install Backup Exe on a Microsoft Windows Server. By default, for the past decade, the web browser on Windows Servers has been locked down so it is a pain to browse to anything outside of current system. That suggests that someone doesn’t really understand production servers, but whatever. The Data Migration Report told me that jobs had been split into multiple jobs, and that identical selections had been combined. OK, whatever. But then I tried to actually do a backup. Remember that our BE 2010 jobs backed a sequence of servers then dismounted the tape. Well, each new server-centric job attempts to back up to our tape drive, then dismount the tape. Huh? This behavior would be really annoying if we had an auto-loader of some form. However, we don’t – we have a single tape drive with a human to change tapes. So, how can I backup a sequence of servers to a single tape? Looks like I might be able to do it by creating a script to run in the Backup Exec Management Command Line Interface (BEMCLI). So let me get this straight. We’ve gone from a backup-centric utility to a server-centric utility. The backup-centric utility did a fairly nice job of backing up a set of servers. The new “server-centric” version doesn’t actually allow me to easily back up a set of servers. Who thought this was a good idea? I recently switched our backups from using the archive bit to using the Modified time instead. The idea was that modified times are supposed to be faster than checking each archive bit. I've since run one Full backup using the Modified time settings, and now our differentials are all performing full backups each time they run. The Full and Differential jobs are both set to use time stamps(they are under the same parent job), but it seems like the Modified Time is being completely ignored. The files are stored on a Hitachi NAS unit and shared as CIFs folders. A Backup Exec agent cannot be installed on it.I recieve an error each time this unit is backed up due to this(full, incremental, or diff), though the files backup successfully. Backups are direct to tape via fiber channel. Can I not make use of modified times to backup this server, or do I need some additional configuration?
