Sharepoint archiving - re-indexing crawl in Sharepoint
Hi everyone. I just wanted to pick everyone's brain about something. Say we archive a few TB worth of Sharepoint documents and they all get replaced by shortcuts. My understanding is that during its re-indexing crawl, the Sharepoint server will reach to every archived document on EV and bring it over to be indexed (I am not talking about EV indexing but rather SP indexing). I guess an incremental crawl is not a big deal, but every once in a while Sharepoint needs to perform a full crawl, which means a few TB worth of data will be pulled from EV and dragged across the network back to the Sharepoint server for indexing purposes. I can't see how this is feasible. The full crawl will take weeks and may kill the network.Solved510Views13likes2CommentsSymantec Enterprise Vault for Exchange 2007
Hi The Exch 2007 stores are moved to new unified storage and the host that holds the Symantec Enterprise Vault must also be moved into new LUNs on the new storage. I know that I can use copy or restore tools to do this, but I want tips or a bettersolution / online migration Regards KLPSolved1.3KViews5likes6Commentsevtools for free - the next one :-)
Hi Guys, After publishing Mailbox Analysis Tool last week, we promised you some new evTools... Here we go:-)We'll publish something useful this week, which you can use in your dev/lab environments. Populate EV Lab: Many consultants and customers have implemented a Lab/Demo environment to test archiving features of Enterprise Vault. While creation of users and Mailboxes tools are available, there was no tool until now to simulate user mail traffic on a daily basis. This toolset combines both approaches and let’s test you in your lab with real production volume and data. The download should go online latest middle of the week. ev8 sp3, win 2003 sp1 having an issues with "deleting orphaned shortcuts". we have run our monthly expiry. then ran shortcut processing with"deleting orphaned shortcuts" checked. the shortcut processing is deleteing the shortcuts based on age, ie. its deleting the item shortcut from the mailbox but the item is still in the archive, not deleting just the orphan ones. thanksSolved1.5KViews4likes10CommentsImport PST's into EV 10.4
I am implementing a new EV environment for Exchange 2013. I have a lot of users who have been exporting email to PST's for years. I would like to have import that email into EV. Is there a clean way of doing that? I could have users import email back into their mailbox but then that would take user involvement. I was hoping to be able to scan directories and have EV pull in the PST's automatically.Solved1.6KViews4likes5CommentsVBA: Extracting mail attachements from archived mails
Like many others, i had a problem extracting attachement from archived mail items. The name of the attachement is "@" instead of the actual file name. It was suggested in a particular mail to use the API, but you need EVAdmin to do so. (CreateObject("EnterpriseVault.ContentManagementAPI") failed) Another suggestion was to read the HTMLbody of the mail and search for the filename. After a little research, i found that, if you "Display" the mailitem, it will be accessible as any other mailitem, including the attachements. Here's the code: Private Function GetSelectedMailAttach() As String Dim olApp As Outlook.Application Dim olExp As Outlook.Explorer Dim olSel As Outlook.Selection Dim olItem As Outlook.MailItem Dim olAtt As Outlook.Attachment Dim olInsp As Outlook.Inspector Dim olSelItem As Outlook.MailItem Dim olOpnItem As Outlook.MailItem Dim i As Long Dim strRet As String On Error GoTo ErrorHandler Set olApp = GetObject("", "Outlook.Application") Set olExp = olApp.ActiveExplorer Set olSel = olExp.Selection If olSel.Count = 0 Then MsgBox "No mailitems selected!", vbExclamation GoTo Finalize End If For i = 1 To olSel.Count Set olInsp = Nothing Set olSelItem = olSel.item(i) olSelItem.Display Do While olInsp Is Nothing Set olInsp = olApp.ActiveInspector Loop Set olOpnItem = olInsp.CurrentItem For Each olAtt In olOpnItem.Attachments If olAtt.Type <> olOLE Then olAtt.SaveAsFile Environ("TEMP") & "\" & olAtt.DisplayName If strRet = "" Then strRet = Environ("TEMP") & "\" & olAtt.FileName Else strRet = strRet & vbCrLf & Environ("TEMP") & "\" & olAtt.FileName End If End If Next olOpnItem.Close olDiscard Next If strRet = "" Then MsgBox "No attachements found in selected mails!", vbExclamation End If GetSelectedMailAttach = strRet GoTo Finalize ErrorHandler: MsgBox Err.Description, vbCritical Finalize: Set olAtt = Nothing Set olItem = Nothing Set olSel = Nothing Set olExp = Nothing Set olApp = Nothing Set olInsp = Nothing Set olSelItem = Nothing Set olOpnItem = Nothing End FunctionSolved3.7KViews4likes5CommentsHow to know how much data that is older than 3 years archived by Enterprise Vault ?

Hi, Can anyone share what is the best pratice to do after you archive the Exchange Server mailboxes with EV according to this article (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH67757) ? Do you still keep it or can you safely delete it from the Exchange Server which will means it deletes the AD account as well. I've never delete all of my Exchange Server mailboxes in the company before because i do not know what or how to access the archived email from the EV console. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. ThanksSolved1.4KViews4likes5CommentsMigrate Exchange to new domain requires access to archives
I have an EV mailbox archiving server and anexchange server in domain Aand recently installed a newExchange server in domain B. Domain B mailbox are being archived over the Cloud. I have recently migrated few mailboxfrom Exchange in domain A to new Exchange in domain B but would require these migrated users to access their archives sitting on EV server in domain A. If I understood correctly, all I need to do is toaddthe domain B Exchange in to EV in domain A, create a provisioning task (but no archiving task as this mailbox is being archived over the cloud)for it? Please stamp my understanding...1KViews3likes4Comments
