Sharepoint archiving - re-indexing crawl in Sharepoint
Hi everyone. I just wanted to pick everyone's brain about something. Say we archive a few TB worth of Sharepoint documents and they all get replaced by shortcuts. My understanding is that during its re-indexing crawl, the Sharepoint server will reach to every archived document on EV and bring it over to be indexed (I am not talking about EV indexing but rather SP indexing). I guess an incremental crawl is not a big deal, but every once in a while Sharepoint needs to perform a full crawl, which means a few TB worth of data will be pulled from EV and dragged across the network back to the Sharepoint server for indexing purposes. I can't see how this is feasible. The full crawl will take weeks and may kill the network.Solved510Views13likes2CommentsEnterprise Vault Issus with outlook

Hello, Currently when I click the restore button for an email I am presented with a dialog that has 3 fields: Microsoft Exchange Server: Mailbox: Folder: (This is read only and currently only allows restoring to the 'restored items' folder) 1. Is there any way to auto populate theMicrosoft Exchange Server field with a value as the end users aren't going to have a clue what to put in there... 2. Auto populate the Mailbox for the username that is accessing theviewmessage.asp page 3. Allow the user to either select a folder or restore to the original location (If these don't exist then restore to 'restored items' folder) Thanks JohnSolved1.1KViews7likes10CommentsEV 10 : Enterprise Vault Indexing Service problem

Hi Everyone! I had installed Enterprise Vault 10 in my test server Windows Server 2008 R2, intending to perform some tests with the product and Exchange 2007. The test client runs Outlook 2007. Once enterprise vault is configured and working, and I'm able to provision the test mailboxes, I tried to enable virtual vault and virtual cache. In the server, in the desktop policy I enabled virtual vault and virtual cache, and with the default options (install automatically, with wizard, so on). After that, I manually provisioned, synchronized and archived on the server. Afterwards, when I log in to my outlook client, I don't see the VCache or VVault buttons or options in the EV toolbar. If I click the toolbar + ctrl + shift in the EV Information the only error that appears is TESTING CONNECTION HTTP connection failed http://WIN-GV6V5SU1CTH.test.local/EnterpriseVault (Status: 0x12) If I pingWIN-GV6V5SU1CTH.test.local I get reply, the client and the server are directly conected in LAN. Any ideas of how to get Virtual Cache and Virtual Vault working? Let me know any way in which I can provide more information. Thanks!Solved1.9KViews6likes17CommentsArchive bit on Legato incremental backup
Hey guys, I just started to support a new EV environment. Unfortunaley I find a huge backlog of savesets during the week. It looks like that only the full backup on the weekend successfully sets the archive bit. When the incremental backup is executed it does not change the archive bit. Enterprise Vault 9.03 on Windows server 2008 R2 SP1 Backup Server: IBM x3650 server NetWorker Server 7.6.5 Build 7 Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2 Our backup specialist told me, that Legato is very simple to set up and that there is no difference in the settings from full to incremental backup. So is Legato in that Version not able to set the archive bit during the incremental backup by design? I'm just asking here because here are a lot of experienced guys who work with the most different backup tools. Otherwise I have to ask EMC. Hello, Has anyone ever configured an EV Domino Gateway on a server that is already running Enterprise Vault? To clarify the situation: I have existing EV solution for FSA and Exchange mailbox/journal archiving I now want to add Domino mailbox and journal archiving to the existing EV environment I want to configure one of the existing EV servers as the EV Domino Gateway The Symantec documentation states the following: "On the computer that will host the Enterprise Vault Domino Gateway, do the following: Install Domino server binaries and configure the Domino server Install Lotus Notes client binaries and hotfix, and configure the client. Use the ID file that you want to use for Domino archiving. After you have completed these tasks, you can install Enterprise Vault and perform the initial configuration." I would like to avoid adding an additional server just for the EVDG or performing a re-install of one of the existing EV servers. The plan! Is it possible to do the following without breaking the existing EV server: Install the Domino server and client binaries as per the pre-requisites on the existing EV server Run the EV binaries again and add the EVDG components Configure Domino mailbox and journal archiving as per normal Thanks in advance.Solved2.5KViews5likes10CommentsEnterprise Vault Expiration process
We currently use Managed folders in exchange, let me be clear not Exchange manged folders but folders that we created through a utility that we then use EVPM to set a retention period on. We have setup the Managed folder utility so that it will create default folders based on your department/title. Some of the defaults are general correspondence, 1 year - Project updates, 2 years. The default folders are automatically pushed to the users mailbox, if they have additional requirements they can request additional folders with different retention through the managed folder utility. Once the folders are created a EVPM file is created and automatically ran that will assign the proper retention to the folders. This way when a user moves email around their mailbox they can change the retention based on what folder they place theemail in. If the user does not move the item and they leave it in their mailbox it will be archived at 30 days with a 90 day retention. IN short if the user wants to keep emails longer than 90 days they MUST take action and move it to the proper folder. Here in lies the problem that I am curious if anyone out that has noticed. We have over 200 millions emails archived in the vault and all of the corresponding shortcuts in the users mailboxes. The users constantly have access to move the emails around and thus change the retention. the fact that we have so many shortcuts in the mailboxes means that it takes 2-3 days to process 3500 mailboxes per exchange server. when expiration comes around it DOES NOT check where the shortcut is and it just expires based on what the Database says. so the end result is that items which should be retained are being expired. Orphan shortcut cleanup process then comes around and within 2-3 days removes the orphaned shortcut. Has anyone noticed this behavior in their environment?1.6KViews5likes5Comments
