Granular Restore 8.5 not able to open Exchange Mail
I just updated all my servers with BESR 8.5... it's working fine except for one thing... Granular restore 8.5 is not able to open "Exchange Mail"... I always get the following error : ************************** (i) Make sure that the volume which contains 'N:\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database.edb' was selected for backup (ii) Try selecting a different Storage Group ************************** I get the same problem with all my databases... if I open the same backup with Granular Restore 8.0 (previous version), it's working fine. what can be the problem? should I contact Symantec to get this resolved?3.2KViews0likes51CommentsBESR 2010 - Granular Restore of Exchange
HelloAll, I am evaluating / testing, BESR 2010. I was using windows server backup which does the job to an extent but doesn't offer granular restore of exchange etc. I restored the Windows Server Backup Image to a test server (Windows 2008, Exchange 2007 SP1) , installed BESR2010 on the test server, completed the backup to the external usb hard drive. I then installed the BESR 2010 trial onto my windows 7 box with outlook 2007 already installed, connected the BESRbackup usb drive to the windows7 box, tried to run the Granular restore exchange option and getting the following :(ScreenShot attached) "Unable to find Exchange Information File" Any suggestions help would be appreciated Thanks and Regards I have already had a look at the following posts (I am backing up the whole server, all volumes) One thing from one of the support notes mention to upgrade GROto 8.5 or something ?How can we just upgrade the GROoption ? http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/314373.htm http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/293323.htm https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/besr-2010-unable-find-exchange-information-file-eifSolved1.6KViews1like22CommentsBESR 2010 - Granular Restore Error: Outlook 2003 or newer not detected
I am evaluating Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 for several clients using Windows Small Business Server 2008. When I click on TOOLS -> RUNGRANULARRESTOREOPTION and select the EXCHANGE MAILtab, I immediately get a "Granular Restore Error" window with the following text: Microsoft Outlook 2003 or newer not detected. Outlook is required for Exchange Mail recovery. Install Microsoft Outlook 2003 or 2007 or 2010. I have always understood that Microsoft recommends against installing Outlook on ANYExchange server because both Outlook and exchange include MAPI.DLL files. Although both files are called MAPI.DLL, the files are quite different and incompatible. Installing Outlook on an Exchange server will result in reduced functionality/stability in one or both products. Reading through the BESR 2010 User's Guide, the built-in help files and checking the on-line documentation, I can't find any instructions indicating that Outlook should be installed on the Exchange computer. What do I need to do to equip BESR 2010 on a Windows Small Business Server 2008 system to be able to restore individual Exchange mailboxes and messages? Where are these instructions in the Symantec BESR 2010 documentation? Is it really acceptable to install Outlook on an Exchange server? I want to thoroughly evaluate BESR 2010 for my Windows SBS 2008 clients, but I really don't want to trash my live SBS 2008 Server (with Exchange) doing so. Thanks!1.5KViews0likes14CommentsExchange Server 2008 Transaction Logs
Hello, When my BESRperforms backups of our system and data drives, the Exchange Server transaction logs are not pruned. I have carefully followed the two items explained in the following article: http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/297799.htm both of which are present and correct on our server, yet the pruning does not take place. What else cause be the problem? (I currently have 14354 Trans Logs dating back to August 2008 consuming 38Gb and could do with them being pruned cleanly) I am using Windows Server 2008 and Exchange Server 2008 with SP1 Thanks, ChrisSolved1.3KViews0likes15CommentsKann keine Wiederherstellungspunkt-Sätze erstellen
I made an recovery point for use with the Granular Restore option so I can restore seperate mails/mailboxes. I have made an backeup off all drives (C: and D:)on the exchange 2007 server (has 64-bits windows 2003 STD) with a Recovery Point Set. C: is the system drive and D: is the drive with the informationstore off Exchange 2007. Once a month the set is renewed with a full backup. Every day I make an incremental. The destination is a network share (also tried an external harddrive, same problem). The backup is secured with a password and standard 128-bits (8+ characters password) AES encryption. The password has 16 characters. uppercase lowercase and an @. When I restore the system on diffrent hardware the password works fine. When I choose for a granular restore I get the following messages after entering the password. " The password that you have entered is not valid. Please check that you entered it correctly. " I'm sure i type the right password. I typed the password in notepad so I can see it and copy paste it. Doesn't work. When I make an non password secured backup. The granular restore works fine. The password is working by the server restore. What can be the reason that the password is not recognized by the granular restore? thanks1.3KViews0likes9CommentsUnable to find the Exchange Information File (EIF)
I have installed the trial version of the "Symantec Backup Exec Recovery Granular Restore option". It is version 8.5.1.29668 and it is installed on Symantec's Recovery Server version 8.5.1.29666. Server is 2003R2 Standard Edition SP2. The image data is backedup on a network external drive (western digital) from which I can restore without any problems. On the server I had installed Outlook 2007 which I removed and installed Outlook 2003. However I always get the same error whrn I attempt to open an sv2i image. It finds the file, however when the window "loading Email...." loads, the applicationtries to mount volume images with NO luck and get the error Unable to find the Exchange Information File (EIF)1.2KViews0likes7CommentsBESR 2010 unable to granular restore emails
We have recently installed BESR backup on our SBS 2003, running exchange 2003. The backups seem to be working fine. I can open a backup and restore a file, but emails fail. It stops while 'prepareing Message Store' with the following error: Error encountered while attempting to prepare the Message STore 'Mailbox Store ***'. It suggests 1) make sure backup is while exchange is not busy (it's backing up at 1am), 2) ensure all storage grouop are included (It's backs up the whole drive in the server, so no chance of not doing this.) I have had a look at the Windows log files and it seems to give this error everytime I try to open the mailstore GranularRestore (16864) ?Volume{f3a5f7cd-cc64-11df-8b13-001d600a27e6}Program FilesExchsrvrmdbdata: An attempt to open the file "\\?\Volume{f3a5f7cd-cc64-11df-8b13-001d600a27e6}\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mdbdata\E00.log" for read / write access failed with system error 5 (0x00000005): "Access is denied.
