Backup Exec 2014 Trial Limitations

I couldn't find this anywhere in the documentation or licensing information, but does the 2014 trial not actually back up the Exchange DB?  I see it checked in selections  but it's greyed out.  Kind of confusing, and when I go back to restore it from a test backup, it's missing.

Is this functionality not available for trial?  Or is there another issue?

  • ...you won't see the *.edb because Backup Exec has something called Active File Exclusion which skips files such as this.

Make sure you read the Exchange best practices on the link below...

    Thanks!

  • Since you are trying out BE 2014, it would be better if you do not have it as part of a DAG.

When you do the backup, make sure you select the Microsoft Information Store to backup Exchange.  See this document

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO74428

When the backup is done correctly, you should be able to expand the Information Store and select individual objects for restore.  You will not find the .edb file in your restore selection because it is automatically excluded from backup.

Also, make sure that your version of Exchange, down to SP &/or CU, are supported.  See the SCL below

  • Yes. The Exchange agent is available for trial.  Did you enable the Agent for Applications and Databases option?

You should post some screenshots of your problem.

  • I've attached a picture of the backup selections and the restore selections.  You can see that the DB is missing from the d:\db folder and I don't get any specific Exchange related restore options at all. I do have "Agent for Applications and Databases" installed.  I have also tried removing and readding it.

I currently have this configured as a DAG with another server that's in a different datacenter.  Because of that, do I need to configure this as part of the DAG or can I still back it up as an individual server? I'd prefer to have this set as its own backup for sending it offsite, and having it as part of the DAG isnt necessary or desirable yet.
