Enterprise Vault continually prompting for credentials

somebody had this issue on this forum and had to remove Basic Authentication on the VC aspx files on the EV Server

I guess the question is, when you actually provide the credentials does it work or prompt again?

When you provide credentials it downloads one - and exactly one item - then the next item causes the problem to reoccur. Given most users have 100K+ items, you can see the issue =)

dont suppose your Internet Explorer security settings are set to require credentials all the time regardless of intranet zone?

But seriously, find the ASPX page its calling and go to the properties of that file through Internet Information Services and then remove Basic Authentication and see what happens

Are the intranet zones configured properly on the client machine?

We just verified that IE is set to for 'Automatic Login with current credentials' so that should be fine.

We'll give it a go with Basic Auth turned off, but we were specifically told by Symantec this was required ( I believe one of my crew tried something similar already). Then again, support isn't giving me alot of confidence at this point.

so first of all, its just a checkbox, if it doesn't work, recheck it, no harm no foul
Basic Authentication is not required UNLESS you are letting people sync without being logged on to the domain (it will break RPC over HTTP if you're not using a VPN etc)

JesusWept2 - thanks for the suggestion, it is in with the crew to give it a try, but they've been pretty constantly on with MS and Symantec support and haven't had a chance as yet.

They did uncover some interesting info. It looks like the root cause may be that the client is trying to connect to an SPN that is no longer available. This makes perfect sense considering we did an upgrade to EV 9 about a month ago that included a move to new hardware. I believe they just started removing the old gear around the time this problem cropped up. I believe they are going to ask that we recreated the old SPN's and point them to the new servers. If that ends up being the fix - I'll report back, we'll also be trying to disable the Basic Auth so I'll give info on that as well.

SPN is definitely a factor, but i would have expected every page to prompt for auth?
