EV Journaled Message

Dear All,

I have setup a journal mailbox and journal task. But eveytime after the journal task run, the journaled message is deleted in owa. Shouldn't it be able to create shortcut and view in OWA? Thanks

Best Regards,

Elroy

  • Hello Elroy,

Journal Archiving by default does not create shortcuts. Works as designed :-)

Journal Archiving is done mostly for legal and compliance reason, and as a Journal Mailbox is not considered a 'normal' mailbox, there is no requirement to have shortcuts. If you need to find items, you need to use Discovery Accelerator.

    Regards

  • Alternatively you can also view the journal items through Enterprse Vault Search (http://<evserver>/enterprisevault/search)

  • Dear All,

Thanks for your reply. So basically it cannot create shortcut for journaling mailbox, right? I can view the item in enterprise vault search. Just want to confirm if the shortcut status is normal or not. Thanks

  • Thanks for all. Is that any configuration which can create shortcut in the journaling mailbox? Thanks

  • as far as exchange is concerned, a journal mailbox is no different from any other user mailbox which means that from an EV perspective, it's no different either. however, the volume of mail that it receives is the volume of mail for your entire organization and more importantly, the messages need to be archived in a special way to preserve the journal data. in order to do so, you need to configure it as a journal target in EV which means that no shortcuts will be created when you archive. if you configure it as a regular mailbox then you can set the policy attributes to create shortcuts or not, age, use links, etc. also, because of the volume of email, it will quickly grow beyond the number of messages that an individual mailbox in exchange can handle. remember that shortcuts might be smaller than an original email but in terms of message count, they still have the same impact.

  • one other thing, i see the trend with EV 11 (and beyond) people moving away from journal archiving using this old method and instead having exchange directly send the journal emails to EV via SMTP.

  • Thanks for the details explanation. I got the clue now!! Thanks again
