Netbackup 50xx appliance: Connect to multiple media servers?

Can we connect Netbackup 5000 series appliance to multiple media servers?

Can I create multiple disk pools on a single appliance?

While creating disk pools in Netbackup admin console, there is an option to "use the media servers mentioned below" what does it mean?

  • Sure, that is possible. The connectivity would be ethernet between the media servers and the 5020 appliance.

    1. Yes you can have multiple media servers in front of the 50x0
    2. No, only one pool
    3. As mentioned in point one you can have multiple media servers. The section allows you to select the media servers that are allowed to write / read from the pool (servers that have credentials for the pool)
  • Thanks for the promt reply.

    example:

    4 media servers

1 5020 appliance has  10 TB storage space

I want to create a Pure disk Disk pool and connect it to all the 4 media servers.

could you please explain how the connectivity should be?

  • Sure, that is possible. The connectivity would be ethernet between the media servers and the 5020 appliance.

  • I know that is possible when using 52x0 + 50x0 appliances, i dont think you can do it with regular media server. Not sure.

Fibre Channel support NetBackup 5020 deduplication pools have Fibre Channel support. Backups via Fibre Channel require a NetBackup 5220 appliance to act as the media server. Replications from a deduplication pool hosted in NetBackup 5220 or another 5020 based deduplication pool are also supported

We should use Ethernet to connect to normal media servers.
