Hello everyone!
NB displays status code 37 when I try to do backups on media server. Please help me with this issue.
Master Server Version 6.5.6
Media Server Version 6.5.6
# bperror -S 37
operation requested by an invalid server
An invalid media server or Windows NetBackup Remote Administration Console made a request to the NetBackup request daemon (bprd) or NetBackup database manager daemon (bpdbm). On Windows, these daemons are the NetBackup Request Manager and NetBackup database manager services.
make sure the server is in the master's server list (bp.conf).
Have you added a new media server?
If so, NBU MUST be restarted before new media server can be used. Just adding SERVER entry will allow some config actions, but to use as backup server, bprd and bpdbm must be restarted.
See extract from Troubleshooting Guide:
NetBackup status code: 37
Message: operation requested by an invalid server
Explanation: An invalid media server or Windows NetBackup Remote Administration Console made a request to the NetBackup request daemon (bprd) or NetBackup database manager daemon (bpdbm). On Windows, these daemons are the NetBackup Request Manager and NetBackup database manager services.
Recommended Action:
Examine the NetBackup All Log Entries report for the time of this error to determine which system tried to connect to the master server.
If the server is a valid media server, verify that the storage unit for the media server is defined. Also, verify that the server or Windows NetBackup Remote Administration Console has a server list entry on the master server. If necessary, update the server list.
On a Windows master server, add the media server to the list on the Servers tab in the Master Server Properties dialog box.
I review the configuration and everything is OK. The problem still persist..
1: (37) operation requested by an invalid server
2: (37) operation requested by an invalid server
3: (37) operation requested by an invalid server
4: (37) operation requested by an invalid server
Suddenly NB displayed that error.
Check admin, bprd and bpdbm logs on master server to verify incoming IP address from media server is resolved correctly to hostname that appears in SERVER list.
Something somewhere has changed - either someone has changed a /etc/hosts entry or DNS is mis-behaving.
If you know which media server, verify forward and reverse lookup in all directions:
bpclntcmd -hn <hostname>
bpclntcmd -ip <ip-address>
Also test comms with : bptestbpcd -host <media-server> -verbose
Hi Marianne I excuted the commands but I can't see any problem.

I saw this forum:

But I'm not sure about it.
Make sure your server shows up:
nbemmcmd -listhosts
also make sure on your media server that it also has itself listed in the bp.conf
SERVER = masterThe server is on the list. :(
Exam the bprd log on the master server. Make sure that the correct name and ip address is coming through from the media sever that is making the backup request..

If allowed, please post log.
