Master server migration
Hi All
We need to set up a new master server with the same catalogue in another datacenter, as we are doing a service separation of some services.
the older master server will still exist as it is being used by the service provider.
both the old and new DCs use the same domain
The primary master server is using a short server name is EMM.
I understand the master server name needs to be the same in this case to do a proper recovery of the older the catalogue.
The question is if there is a way to keep the short server name same and a different FQDN but in the same domain
The below illustrates the question better (example not actual server names)
current server name in EMM xx
FQDN in current DC xx.corp.com
can we set up the new master using the below
new Server name in EMM xx
FQDN in new DC yy.corp.com
- xx.corp.com and xx are not the same.
Catalog recovery will fail at relational db restore. You may as well prepare new master server with new name.
You have 3 choices:
1) Get a catman consultant to perform catalog migration.
2) Import all tapes that you want to take to new DC.
3) Use Recovery Without Import method (Google the TN) to recover image catalog.
Tapes will be unassigned and you will need to move all tapes with valid images to non-backup pool to prevent overwrite.
You can run NBCC and submit to Support to generate script that will assign media. Recovery Without Import is meant for situations like these and master names can be different.
Importing tapes is a lengthy procedure that is done in 2 steps - howto procedure in this TN: http://www.veritas.com/docs/000029918
