Netbackup DR

Hi All,

On of our customers has a Netbackup license per tera, What is the required licenses to implement a backup in the DR site ?

Main Site, Netbackup per tera ( One backup Server Master Server and Media Server at the same Time ) in the DR they need one server.

your support is highly apperciated.

Regards,

Layth

  • Capacity based license allows you to deploy as many servers as you like - even masters servers.

Just ensure that you do not exceed the amount of front-end terabytes that need to be backed up. If so, just purchase additional.

  • Thanks Marianne for your kind cooperation.

Ok, what then the procedure to have a DR for the Netbackup ?

  • Same server type, OS, NetBackup version and hostname as your production server.

Ensure NetBackup is installed into the same location as your production server.

    Then do a catalog recovery.

  • You can also use Auto Image replication feature of NBU (7.1 onwards) but this requires MSDP at source and target site. This would enable backup images to replicate automatically after specified threshold to replicate with catalog. So you are always DR ready at another site.

For DR procedure check if this helps

That depends om your company's DR policy and on what is available at DR site.

This thread is about licencing, not about DR procedure. There are many TN's on Symantec site to assist with DR. Basics in Troubleshooting Guide.

If you need HOWTO assistance, please close this thread (by marking Solution and start a new discussion, tellimg us about company DR policy and what is available at DR site.

  • Using  Auto Image replication , is supported only for backup on Disk.

What I am thinking here is

Having Two master servers, One in the Main site and the second on the DR, then replicate the catalog from the main to the DR site. if this douable this will help and gain the time on the recovery at the DR site, without need to re catalog the tapes which will take hours along time in some cases.

    Many Thanks.

As per previous posts, there are many TN's and White Papers available.

    Just one of them:

Veritas NetBackup (tm) Catalog Replication: Conditional Support Statement.

Without Catalog replication, you can simply perform Catalog Recovery as per revaroo's post. No need to import (re-catalog) tapes...

I believe your Licensing question has been answered, right?
