NetBackup for NDMP host

Hi all,

I have a Mater Server with NetBackup 7.5.0.6, it connect to host through LAN, host client have FC connect to DataDomain.

I want direct backup from host client to DataDomain thruogh FC.

Any solution for this? I need your help.

    Your requirement "I want direct backup from host client to DataDomain thruogh FC"

     

    Only a media server component in NetBackup can directly write to VTL. The media server component is licensed by the server license. If you have 10 servers that you would like to have write directly to VTL then you need to install server software on all, and provide the license for all.

    Hi,

     

    What type of configuration for the DD? Is it s VTL, or configured as OST disk?

    Why NDMP?

    What type of client?

    Check the compatinbility http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH76648

     

    You could convert you client to a Enterprise client to write directly to the DD (depending on the configuration and licenses are available).

    Hi,

    DD config VTL.

    Mater server is Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64bit, NBU 7.5

    Client is Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64bit connect to DD across FC.

    Why NDMP. Because i read some document and i think it may be helpful.

    Ok,

     

    You need to upgrade you client to an Enterprise Client from a licensing point of view (if you're using capacity based licensing then you're already sorted).

    Then you need to install the NBU server on that client and configure the VTL as library/tape.

    How i upgrade my clinet to Enterprise Client. What should I do?

    Why i need install NBU server on that Client?

    So, If i have 10 client or more, i must install 10 server NBU?

    I have license of NBU, seem full option.

    Dear Riaan,

    We have SAN switch with FC port. We have some servers conect to SAN and Datadomain also.

    I want to use NetBackup server as control machine only, it will controll all backups from these host to Datadomain through FC. As you talked , we must install media server on these servers,do we haev other way? because we don't have enough license. Please help
