11d only giving compression of 1.01:1

Hello all,

We're using Backup Exec 11d here and have recently purchased an HP LTO4 tape drive with hardware compression.  Alarmingly, I only get a ratio of 1.01:1 which seems pathetically low to me.

Can anybody advise how to get a better compression ratio?  I know if I manually zip the files in question I can achieve near 2:1 compression so it's not the files themselves at fault.

Kind regards,

I'm having the same problem with my BE 11d. It's running on a ProLiant server backing up to an HP VS80 DLT drive. I've tested the drive and it tests out at a compression ratio of 2.27:1. I can successfully backup this server as long as the total amount of data being backed up stays below 38 gigs or so. Once I go over that amount the tape pops out and BE asks for another tape. I've checked my backup job and the Compression Type is "Hardware (if available, otherwise software) is there somewhere else I need to check to enable compression on my backup job?

Thanks,
