ACT! Database Backup

KDCasey
Not applicable
We have a Windows Server 2003 R2 machine hosting an ACT! Premium 2007 database which we are backing up using a Backup Exec 11d Windows Agent. ACT! uses a customized version of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express as its database engine, but uses files with .ADF and .ALF extensions instead of the .MDF and .LDF extensions used by the standard MS SQL Server product. The Backup Exec agent keeps skipping the ACT! database files so apparently I will need either a SQL Agent or the Advanced Open File Option. However I do not know if the files are being skipped because they are SQL databases or because they are open (which they are). Can someone please advise the appropriate method for backing up these types of files? Thanks in advance.

I use SQL Enterprise Manager to create two maintenance jobs 30 minutes before a backup.

1.) Backup database files to e:\MS SQL backup
2.) Backup Transaction logs to e:\MS SQL backup

each in its own directory
leave the repair and checking databases as default
Backup is 8:00pm every night
Keep two days of backups

I do each database separate as two jobs including all system dbs: Master, etc....

I backup this directory instead of the active databases.
