Agent for Hyper-V backup of guest VM running SQL

All,

I am testing the Agent for Hyper-V and have a question.  If you are running a guest VM that runs SQL and you use the Hyper-V agent, does anything have to happen on the Guest VM prior to backup (stopping SQL services, VSS service, etc).  I believe that Agent uses VSS on host and can snapshot the .vhd file live with no intervention on the VM, but, my Sql DBA disagrees.  He belives the database/transaction logs might be in a bad state at time of backup if SQL if not stopped.  Who is correct?  And, is there any documentation from Symantec pertaining to this specific scenerio? Thanks,

Damian

There are 2 things to consider.

GRT backup and Non GRT backup.

If you are doing a Non GRT backup then it takes the snapshot of the complete vm and export it to BE server where it get backed up to destination device.

If it you are trying a GRT backup of SQL then you should have sql license installed on BE and remote agent should be installed on the vm machine.

What kind of backup you are trying to run and what is the error message you are getting?
