BE for Windows Server with Exchange Server Remote Agent

Dear all,

Recently we installed a new Exchange Server (2003) and upgraded our Backup Exec from 9.1 to 10d (10.1).

The software has been upgraded fine but although I can browse to my Exchange Server and can include both my hard disk for backup, it won't let me to connect and backup Exchange Mailboxes and Public Folders.

As soon as I try to expand any of the above, it comes up with "Logon Account Selection" and says Logon account "domain\administrator" failed to access "server name\Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes". Access is denied.

Please select a logon account from the list.

I get the above when trying to connect to Public Folders too.

Then I select domain administrator account but it still won't connect.

I have typed and re-typed the password just to make sure. I also re-installed the remote agents from "Tools" option on Backup Exec but still the same.

Does anyone knows how to solve this problem? I thank you all in advance.

Cheers,
Darius.

Hi Darius,

This error can occur either if the account used does not have enough permissions to connect to Exhange or if it is hidden in the Global address list. Refer to the steps in the technotes below to make sure that the account has sufficient rights:

Hi Priya,

Thank you for your help. I have looked at document ID: 273168 but was unable to locate Backup Exec Service Account on Active Directory. Is there any other way to get to that account?

Thank you.

Kindest regards,
Darius.

Hello,

-- Which account are you using for backing up the exchange Server?

-- Does this account have all the rights and a unique mailbox as mentioned the the documents?

Thank You,

Shweta

Hello Shweta,

I use domain admin account for backing up our exchange and DC.

Originally we had Backup Exec 9.1 installed on our DC. It was scheduled to backup users and company shares.

We recently bought a new server and installed Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition on it. This server is purely used as Exchange Server and nothing else.

We have upgraded our Backup Exec from 9.1 to 10.1 (10d) and also bought a remote agent for Exchange which has been installed by using "Install Remote Agents" option from Tools menu on the software. It said that the software has installed 100% and requested a reboot. I rebooted the server few times just in case and tried to backup the Exchange Server but it won't allow me to select Mailboxes or Public Folders.

I can see both the above folders but as soon as I try to select them, it comes up with the access denied logon box (Figure 1 on document ID: 273168). This is only happening to Public Folders and Mailboxes. I can select and backup "Shadow Copy Components", "Microsoft Information Store" or any drive on Exchange Server.

Please let me know if you any more information.

Kindest regards,
Darius Arjomand.

Hi Shweta,

Thank you for all your help.

I loooked at the document 256537 and noticed that the Administrator's email account was not setup properly. I removed the email account and re-created it and it works now.

Once again thank you so much for all you help. Have a great day.

Kindest regards,
Darius Arjomand.
