BE12.5 re-installation question

Currently I have BE12.5 on Windows 2003 server. This is a rather old old machine, so I bought a new Dell R410 and have installed Windows 2008 R2 server on it. My question is, how do I un-install BE12.5 from old machine and install it on new machine? Is there a procedure posted somewhere on how to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Ravi

For using Windows 2008 R2 as media server you need BE 2010 R2

You can go for

1) Upgrading BE 12.5 to BE 2010R2. For this you can contact Licensing team for more details. Then move it to the new server. (Windows 2008 R2).

If you don't want to upgrade BE

2) Install Windows server 2008 SP2 on your new server. Then move BE 12.5 to the new server.

I personally prefer to do the first thing.

Here is the procedure for reinstalling BE with saving job definitions and catalogs.

Before upgrading to BE 2010/2010R2 check out for hardware and software compatibility lists...

Perhaps I was not clear in framing my question. My current configuration is as follows:

PC1 - Windows 2003 Server - Backup Exec 12.5 (This is connected to Tape library via SCSI cable)

PC2 - Windows 2003 server --Backup exec 12.5 Agent installed. --

I am referring my question to PC2. This machine is rather old and I am getting a new machine with 2008 R2 server. I like to decommssion this old machine, shut it down and throw it away. My question is, what is the procedure to install my exisiting 12.5 BE Agent license on the new machine.

Thanks

Ravi

Hi Ravi

You install all the license keys on the media server and not on the remote servers.

Remote agent license key is not associated with any specific server.

So you can simply install remote agent on your new server and start taking backups.

You just have to uninstall the Remote Agent from the old machine. Then install the Remote Agent on the new machine and set the name of the Media server (Backup Exex server) for publishing.

Thanks,

-Sush...
