Backup Exec 10d SP2 and updating Remote Agents

Pete_Witt

Hello,

My question is: how can the media server's remote agent installation files be updated?

I've recently updated to BEWS 10.1 (10d) SP2 and pushed this to the (8) remote servers, as per TechDoc 285482.
However, based on BEWS remote server properties and the beremote.exe fileversion, it seems this has not worked as expected: servers should be v10.1.5629.34, but are older.

I'm assuming the Remote Agent is installed from the media server's BackupExec\NT\Agents\RANT32 directory (Win 32bit systems)? I note this contains the original (old) installation files - so there seems little point using the 'pull' installation method (as opposed to 'push').

BTW, the method I've used in the past to update remote Agents is:
apply the updates to the media server
determine each updated file required by the remote agent
from the remote server: stop remote agent service, manually copy the updated files, re-start the service.

Cheers,
Pete.

If you install Hotfix 40, then 42, the files will update.

Hello,

Thanks for the tip re: 2 new hotfixes, Lucas.

I installed Hotfix 40 and 42 to the media server, then re-installed remote agents: I found this does update the remote server's files - except this one:

beclass.dll (Backup Exec Class Library) - SP2 is v10.1.5629.23; remote server files remain at v10.1.5629.9

As a tip to others, I hadn't spotted those 2 hotfixes for two reasons:

1) From the Media server BackupExec app: Tools, Veritas Updates, List available updates: 'No updates are available for this product.' The link is to http://softwareupdate.veritas.com/be/welcomepage.jhtml.

Does anyone know if there is there a similar, up-to-date, Symantec site/utility?

2) My link to BackupExec updates was using Veritas' site, which doesn't list recent updates. I'm now using Symantec's site, which is up-to-date.

Cheers,
Pete.

The .9 version is correct. See http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/285482.htm

I don't mean to hijack your thread but...are you kidding me? Is this software completely borked? Mine is also reporting to:

http://softwareupdate.veritas.com/be/vxsdm/findnewupdates.jhtml

...and reports no updates available. What is the link to symantec's site?

I cannot push out updates either: "the account or password is not valid" or "the configured identity is not correct"...bull! The software obviously has a bug and it's not fixed by article# 269175. I have to manually copy the RANT32 directory to the local machine and run the setupaofo.cmd from the command line. I'm dissatisfied thus far...

Hi Lucas,
Thanks for the info re: BECLASS.DLL. I'd already updated remote servers to .29 and all seems OK, so I'll leave it at that.

Hi Rodd,
>What is the link to symantec's site?

The latest (?) updates can be accessed from the 'Symantec Backup Exec for Windows Servers' page:
http://www.symantec.com/enterprise/products/overview.jsp?pcid=1018&pvid=57_1
Bottom right, under 'USE this product' select 'Product Updates'.

Last week this linked to:
http://support.veritas.com/menu_ddProduct_BEWNT_view_DOWNLOAD.htm

which showed a useful list of updates by type, version & platform. Unfortunately, this page now redirects to:
http://www.symantec.com/enterprise/support/downloads.jsp?pid=15047

which has less helpful search filters. Good luck!

Cheers,
Pete.
