Hello

I have having issues getting a backup exec 11d server talking to a Netware 5.1 Server, everytime I try to connect to the server I get the following error message

An error was encountered while attempting to browse the contents of 'server'
Error connecting to the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Netware Servers. Make sure the Remote Agent Netware is running on the target computer.

I have the backup exec agent running on debug mode on the netware server and the following messages are seen.

Error: [0000012c][05/25 09:45:22] Failed to retrreve XDR Header! for message0x0.
Error: [0000012c][05/25 09:45:22]  ndmp_process_messages: detected eof
Error: [0000012c][05/25 09:45:22]  FreeFormatEnv( cur_fmt=0 )
Error: [0000012c][05/25 09:45:22]  ndmpDestroyConnection.

I have trawled through the forums and have tried most of the suggestions, does anyone have any ideas.

Many thanks in advance

Rich

Check name resolution - it must be working in both directions.

Also, what version/build of the remote agent do you have? Check in sys:\bkupexec\version.doc for details.

OK, that's the correct version of the remote agent.

What NetWare support pack do you have on this 5.1 server? If you don't know, just type 'version' at the server console and post back here with the results.

Sorry about the delay..

Can you just confirm - are you making selections via 'Favorite Resources' --> 'NetWare Agents'? Also, at what level are you making the selections - server level, volume level etc? Maybe try making selections at different levels to see what impact this has.

Hi,

After you install the Netware agent to the Netware server, un-install Netware Client for Windows. I encountered similar problem before.

Chris :-  The error messages appear when you try to look at anything on the Netware box by what ever means you use.

Elbert, Tried that it didn't work,

Anyone with any other ideas ?

Thanks

I can only think that there is some kind of network issue between the media server and this remote NetWare agent. I'd recommend that you open up a case with Symantec so that this can be investigated further.
