Backup Exec 2010 Remote Agent Utility

We had a recent issue on our server that hosts our oracle databases. The error messages are as follows -: OSD-04008: WriteFile() failure, unable to write to file. O/S-Error: (OS 33) The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file.

This server also hosts the symantec Backup Exec 2010 Remote Agent utility. All our research show that this error may have happened because of a backup operation that gained exclusivity on the database files. How can we find registry or log information that backup utility ran on the server at the timestamp when we received the error?

Hi  just to avoid unnecessary questions what is the research that has been done to identify the Backup Exec remote agent as a possible cause?  Have you checked out Windows system and application events for errors that occur during the time that a backup job occurs?

Hello Imosla,

Thank you for your response. We have checked all application and windows system logs in event viewer. However, we received no error messages or indication of impending database failure. The only message we received in event viewer occured after the database went down. The message said "the database process has been terminated". Can you please explain how to view the backup exec logs, in order to show whether backup exec was running in that timeframe?

Hello there,
You can check on the Media server in Job Monitor if there was any backup job running to backup that Oracle server when the Database went down.
Without the backup job running from the Media server there will be no activity done by the Remote agent on the remote server.

I think Oracle will also have its own logs showing if backup of database were started as we just use the Oracle RMan to do the backups.
Thanks,
