Backup job hangs forever on .pst, but job is set to skip open files

Periodically (once every month or so), my backup job (both full/incremental) will hang up while trying to backup a .pst file. It's always the same file, and I'm sure that the user is just accidentally leaving the PC on with Outlook open overnight.

However, my backup job is set to not attempt to backup any open files, so I assumed it should be skipped. However, the job hangs forever (until manually canceled) on the open .pst file.

It's really more of an annoyance than anything, because it has happened during a full backup, which takes too long to reschedule for a weekday evening.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for skipping this file if it's open? It is an important file to backup, so I can't just skip it outright all the time, but I don't want it sinking my backup job once a month either.

Thanks

Hi,

You can either exclude the .pst file from the backup job or have AOFO installed to back up open files.
