Backup to Disk Over Network - Semaphore TimeOut

I am trying to do a backup job over our network to one of our remote offices.

I setup a BackUp To Disk device that is a network share on our remote server.

I setup a job to use that device and to backup about a gig of data.

We have a 10meg dedicated line at our HQ and a 6meg non dedicated line at our remote office.

The backup starts fine, but so far it ran for about 10 minutes, got 40 megs done, and then stopped, giving an error. I restarted it, got 70 megs, and got the same error.

Job ended: Monday, February 07, 2005 at 7:37:59 PM
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0x79 - The semaphore timeout period has expired.

Final error category: Other Errors

Backup - CIMDB Storage device "Offsite Backup" reported an error on a request to write data to media.

Error reported:
The semaphore timeout period has expired.

Any ideas what this is?

I am just using a backup to disk, so there is no driver or SCSI configuration needed, per the first article.

The seoncd one did recommend shutting anything that had 'continuous access' to the HD, so I disabled the virus scan on the machine getting the backup to disk.

I still get the same error...

Hi,

1. Try a large backup of data using "NT Backup",

2. Create a new backup-to-disk folder and target a scheduled backup job to the same. Check the result. Please refer to the following technote:
