Bowsing Backup2disk catalogues stops the Backup Exec Job Engine

I'm having a problem with one of our servers. It contains an LTO3 tape libary with 2 drives.

Server is running Windows 2003 and running Backup Exec 10.0 (5484) SP4.
I've looked on the knowledgebank and coudlln't find anything.

When you look through the catalogues and your mouse runs over the + sign for a backup2disk folder it displays all the backup2disk tape names, the list is large as there is about 500GB of data being backed up. The backup 2 disk sizes are 1GB each so there are a lot.

I've checked event viewer and this is what happens below:

Event Type: Error

Any ideas or suggestions to this much appreciated as this kills any backups running if you want to restore from the Backup2disk location.

Hello Mark,
- We assume that you mean that the bengine.exe terminates unexpectedly causing you Backups to fail.

- Could you elaborate on this sentence:
Any ideas or suggestions to this much appreciated as this kills any backups running if you want to restore from the Backup2disk location.

- What is the Importance of the following line if your Bengine is terminating unexpectedly?:
When you look through the catalogues and your mouse runs over the + sign for a backup2disk folder it displays all the backup2disk tape names, the list is large as there is about 500GB of data being backed up. The backup 2 disk sizes are 1GB each so there are a lot.

- IF you think the catalogs could be a problem, you can try the following steps:
Try renaming the "Catalogs" folder.

Stop all Backup Exec services
Go to Root Drive:\\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT
Rename the "Catalogs" folder to "Catalogs_OLD"
Start all of the backup Exec Services

(You will need to recatalog all the tapes, or the tape you want to restore from after renaming the catalog folder.)

Hope that helps.

Please write back to us with more Information.

Thanks
Regards.
