CRC error in exchange backups

Hi all

On a server running windows 2000 sp4, exchange 2000 sp4 and backup exec v9.0, I have recently started getting CRC errors (0x00000017) on exchange backups.

There are errors in the event log about BackupExec Devices error - unload status retry - error_not_ready.

I have checked and this does not occur if I run a file backup by itself. I am also able to run a NTBACKUP of exchange without errors.

What would the problem be? I am guessing it isnt just teh scsi driver etc because if it was, then the same errors should occur if i was doing -any- backups to tape, including files, but i do not get these errors on file backups.

Hi,

If you are not at the latest build of Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows Servers
revision 4691, we would suggest you download and install it using the
following technotes:

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/264658.htm

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/262414.htm

# BEWS 9.1 is a free downloadable upgrade inclusive of previously installed
agents and options from Backup Exec 9.0 for Windows Servers agents and
options.

# Update all agents/options on all remote systems.

Refer the technote given below :

"Data error (cyclic redundancy check)" is reported in the Backup Exec job log during a failed backup/verify operation

Thank you
Gauri
