Compression Percentages

I've read all about compression, but I guess I'm missing something here. A ratio of 1.4-1.7 is supposed to be good, but how does that relate to a percentage? Is this 85%-90% or what? I have compression rations all over the board, and I'm not really sure which are good and which are bad. Some are like 1.02 or 1.15. Could someone clear this up for me? Thanks.

Ok, I think I have answered my own question. Bytes Written / Used Capacity = Compression Ratio.
Used Capacity/Bytes Written = Percent of original data written to disk
Either take the reciprocal of this number for the Actual compression Percentage, or
use
Bytes Written - Used Capacity/Bytes Written = Actual Percent of File Compression.
