Contents of system state backup

I'd like to see what's in the incremental backup of my system state.  It is one gigabyte, which is pretty big in my opinion given that there were no changes to the system.

System state backup is always a full backup irrespective of any backup type. It can't be incremental or differential. Because the system state contains com+, registry entries, AD components(in case it is DC), system files.

If my system files (kernel, loader, etc) are changing hourly then I've got big problems.
If Microsoft only pushes a monolithic system state when requested, perhaps Symantec should only save the delta between the last full system update and the most recent.
