Creating a Differential backup with a tape auto loader.

I have an ADIC autoloader that has 8 slots. A full back up uses two tapes, or two slots. A differential backup takes up one tape, or one slot. I want to create a scheme where a weeks worth of tapes are loaded into the backup. Thats 4 differerential backups (Mon-Thur) tapes, and two full backup tapes (Friday). We have one media pool for both the full backup and the differential. We have two weeks rotating. We keep one week on site, and one week off site. We also do monthly full backups and keep them offsite.

The problem I am having is with the differential backups. I can't find a way to associate the backup for a particular day with the correct slot or tape. It just pulls the tape from slot one since slot one-four of the ADIC are used for the differential backup media pool. I need to some how tell the differential backup to say hey "Today is wednesday, so I need to check with the ADIC to find out which slot the Wednesday's tape is in, and then pull it out and use it for Wednesday nights differential backup".

The only thing I can think of doing is having a separate media pool for each day of the week. So that way when Wednesday comes it pulls from Wednesdays media pool which would have two tapes in it since we are on a two week rotation. Obviously there will be only one of those tapes loaded, and one tape off site.

Is there an easy way to do this? Right now I am stumped. Any help would be appreciated.

The only way to do what you want and guarantee that it will work is to partition the loader and then edit/create jobs for each night pointing to the associated partition

This does mean that you will need a different job for each night, but the Mon-Thurs jobs can all share the same Selection List.
