Creating a backup job

When I try to create a backup job it tells me that I need two servers. Is there anyway that I can create the backup job and have it store the backup to a external hard drive. Or do I need to have two servers running a Business server and a protection server.

Are you using Continuous Protection Server (CPS)?

I have 1 server we will call it AHS and about 25 local clients and we have 5 office that use remote desktop connection to connect to the network and use programs installed on the server

The AHS server is running windows 2003 and we do have Continuous Protection Server running. We want to backup certain folders periodically during the week and make a full system backup once a week.

On AHS Server you have installed CMS Service (CPS software) and you have 25 local clients , are these clients laptops\desktops or ... ?

CPS Key Components : minimum 2 servers are needed

Business Servers
Business Servers store data that is routinely saved by end-users
during the course of their daily operations. Once data is saved to the
Business Server, the data may be backed up to a Protection Server.
Business Servers must therefore reside in the same Backup Group as
the Protection Server. Each Business Server requires that a
Continuous Protection Agent be installed.

Protection Server
The Protection Server is the destination of the CPS backup data. It is
typically installed at a primary location or a central office. The
Protection Server hosts the backup destinations where snapshots are
taken and indexed, as well as the Web Restore Server Component that
allows users to retrieve data via Backup Exec Retrieve. More than one
Protection Server can be installed in the Backup Group.
