Date rate when software encryption turn on On LTO4

Dear all,

I have LTO 4 tapes , if turn on  software encryption from Backup exc  On LTO4 ...

does it effect my total job time( do  i get delay in Writing speed)

Yes. Definitely, turning on encryption will slow down the job.  You should turn on hardware encryption which will slow down the job less than software encryption.

In software encryption, the data is encrypted on the remote server & then transferred to the Backup Exec media server which in turn writes to the destination device, whereas in hardware encryption the data is first written to the destination device & then encrypted.

Encryption does add overhead to the total time taken, so test both options (if you can) to see if you get variance in throughput or not.
