I have a problem with restoring individual mails from tape - but not from backup-to-disk folder.
The setup:
Windows Server 2003, 64 bit edition
Backup Exec 11d build 7170, SP1 and Hotfix 17-28 installed.
The Exchange server is also the backup server.
During the backup, it writes this on the information store
part of the log.
"The option to enable the restore of individual items from
the database backup was selected for this backup."
The backup job completes successful without exceptions.
...so the backup part works fine, I presume.
When creating a restore job, I cant see the mailboxes, so I
cant start a restore of one mailbox or one message. And no
error message to feed google :(
This happens only when backup was made to tape (stand alone
LTO2 drive). If I change the exact same backup-job to make
the backup to a backup-to-disk folder, I can restore the
mailboxes without a problem. So I guess all the options on
the backup-job is set correct.
Where should I start my troubleshooting?
