Exchange folders cannot be seen in a selection list

Since our exchange system has been moved onto a new system, when trying to schedule a new backup I cannot see the exchange Information store or mailbox folders in the backup selection list.

I have installed the exchange remote agent via push from the media server.

I can backup other files from the exchange server but not the exchange mailboxes.

These are the details of the servers.

Exchange server: Windows 2003 server, Exchange 2003 SP2, MS SQL 2000, PDC.
Media Server: Windows 2003 server, Backup Exec 10.1

I have gone through articles

http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/268946.htm

http://support.veritas.com/docs/238618

http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/242606.htm

And

http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/249456.htm

But still no luck

Thanks.

Hi,

Are you able to see Exchange information store in the selection list?

Check whether the mailbox of the Backup Exec account is not "hidden" in the Global Address List.

Have you tried logging on to the Backup Exec server with this same account?

Make sure that the Remote Agent service is running with Local System account.

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately no success at the moment.

I cant see the Information store folder or rather any exchange folder whatsoever in the selection list.

The account I use for Backup exec is not hidden and I can succesfully log onto the server with the same account. The remote agent is running with the local systems account too.

Any further ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello,

Is the Exchange agent license installed on the media server?

Is the remote agent ver on the Exchange server 10.1?

Thanks.

Hi,

Yes the exchange agent license is installed on the media server and it has the same version (10.1) as the Backup exec.

Recently I have installed backup exec on the exchange server, and if I look at the selection list on the local server, I can succesfully see the mailboxes. However there is no sign of me being able to see the mailboxes from the media server.

An aside question: Under Add/Remove Programs, what is the exchange agent named as? On my exchange server it says windows remote agent, is this correct?

Thanks.

Hello,

On the Exchange server via add remove programs you would see Microsoft Exchange

You have mentioned that you have installed Backup Exec on the Exchange server. You need to install the exchange license on the on the server where you have installed Backup Exec and on the exchange server if it is remote you would see only the remote agent service .

Thanks

Hi,

I already installed the exchange license on the same server and it was fine.

The purpose of installing backup exec on the exchange server was to check whether I could see the exchange folders, I succesfully could.

However this doesnt solve the problem as I still cant see the exchange folders from the media server.

Thanks.

Though it's not required for Stores Backups, is Outlook installed on the Media Server?

If you logon to the media server as the BackupExec service account, and open Outlook, can you connect to the Exchange Server? Just to check for connectivity)

Also, it's not required any more, but do you have the Exchange System Manager installed on the Media Server (again, just to check for connectivity)Message was edited by:

Hi

I have installed outlook on the media server and can successfully access the BackupExec service account. I havent Installed System Manager on Media Server as of yet but I would think I shouldnt have problems accessing the mailbox locally. Its viewing remotely that seems to be the real problem.

Thanks.

Hi, I have tried http://support.veritas.com/docs/238618 and still no luck.

I have exchange 2003 with SP2 and the BE version is 10.1 for Windows servers.

Thanks.

Hello,

Try creating a new user, and then give him following Rights:
- Local Domain Admin
- Exchange Full Admin Rights, (from System Manager - Delegate Controll)

Then Create the same user in Backupexec with the same credentials. And connect to the exchange Server with this account from backupexec.

Let us know if that helps

thanks
