Small shop, 2 servers running Windows Server 2003, 1 NAS. I've tried to get rid of this error for 2 months. It showed up mid July. Backup exec is running on our exchange server which is also configured to be our PDC. We do run/have a SharePoint server running on the 2nd server which also is our terminal services box. Can anyone explain the workaround posted? I can provide any other necessary details to get this fixed.

Here is the error message: Final error: 0xe000848c - Unable to attach to a resource. Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again.

Details:

The above error may occur if the System Logon account is deleted, and the Remote Agent for Windows Servers logon account is set to an account that does not have rights to the SQL server.

Job Engine debug errors are below:
03/08/06 10:34:30 ERROR: 4 Error: Connection has not been authorized
03/08/06 10:34:30 SetupNDMPConnection: NDMP_PROP_SET failed,ndmp_error=4.
03/08/06 10:34:30 Enter RestoreMessageHandler::GetMachineName
03/08/06 10:34:30 Exit GetMachineName - Machine name:
03/08/06 10:34:30 Enter RestoreMessageHandler::GetMachineName
03/08/06 10:34:30 Exit GetMachineName - Machine name:
Note: Where SQLservername appears, it should be the RedirectedSQLservername (where the backup is being restored to). Instead Backup Exec looks for the source SQL server from which has been backed up.

Workaround:

Use either the System Logon account or an account which has sufficient rights to the SQL server for the Remote Agent for Windows Servers Service to use for login purposes.

We struggled with the same. The confusing thing is, that creating and selecting files for backup works, whereas the backup itself fails. My findings:

The system logon account is the account, the BE services use. Additionally there are separate logons possible for each ressource, you want to backup. And you can set one account to be used as "default" for all ressources.

BE does not try all logons (see Network/Accounts) if any succeeds for a logon to a ressource. It uses the defined account, the default account, the system logon account, what ever is definded. If onme fails, the backup fails.

Be sure, that the system logon account exists and works. Be sure, that if a default logon is set, this works.

Verify, that the logon accounts for each ressource are correct.
