HOW TO: backup 1 job, on 2 seperate tapedrives

Hi,

one of our customers has a full tape, and instead of inserting a second tape in the morning, they want to have a second tapedrive that takes over the job, when the first tape is full.

So ... how can I configure an existing backup job to backup the data on the first drive, and when that tape is full, it will continue the job on another tape on another tapedrive ?

Suggestions anyone ?

Thanks in advance,

Filip

if the two drives are the same type, you can set up a "Cascaded Drive Pool". See the Admin Guide or http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/262932.htm

Then edit the job to point to the Cascaded Pool, ratehr than All Pools

Hello Filip!

You will have to change the device settings for the backup job to use all the drives pool or create a separate drive pool under devices tab and select it as a backup destination.

cascaded drive pool is the option that will correct the need to swap tapes, but it will NOT reduce your backup window. perhaps a better solution would be to split the backup into two jobs, one to each drive, and run them concurrently.
