HP 1/8 G2 Tape Auto Loader LTO-5 Ultrium 3000 SAS and BE 11d

Hi,

We just have purchased an HP 1/8 G2 Tape Auto Loader LTO-5 Ultrium 3000 SAS and installed it on our exsisting backup server where Backup Exec 11d is installed. Before that we had a LTO-2 Ultrium 448 SCSI version.

Windows Server 2003 does detect theSAS unit and it is visable in the Device Manager. So everything looks fine, however the new SAS tape loader isn't detected by BE 11d and sees the LTO-5 drive as a stand-alone drive.

This newest SAS tape loader is not in de compatibility list for BE 11d, but the tape loader it self is not different from the LTO-4 version, which is on the that list.We tried everything, but can't get it detected.

Any ideas how we can't fix this issue?

Many thanks,

Rob

Mainly i belive LTO-5 drive will not be supported with BE 11.

Check it in BE 11d HCL..

EDIT: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH46703

HP 1/8 G2 Tape Autoloader with HP StorageWorks Ultrium 1760 LTO4 drive is listed under New Tape libraries..

LTO 5 drives are only supported with Backup Exec 2010 (R1 and R2). Here is the Software Compatibility List for the same.

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH137682 : Backup Exec 2010|2010 R2 Software (SCL)

Also in BE 2010 R1 it is ony supported after installing the HF Hotfix 348315 as given in the link below:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH128322

So my suggestion would be to upgrade to Backup Exec 2010 R2 so that LTO 5 drive can be used.

As you will be upgrading from Be 11d you will have to buy the Licenses for BE 2010 R2. You can check with Customer care if you are eligible for free upgrade if you have a valid contract.

Thanks,
