How To Setup Circularly Overwriting B2D

Andrew_Jahnke
Not applicable
I'm not sure how to phrase my question, but I want to perform a Backup to Disk where my disk volume will simply store as many daily backups as it can until it gets full. When that happens, I want BackupExec to start overwriting the oldest backup files... does that make sense?

To the best of my knowledge, the only high water mark you can set for volume usage will stop B2D backups when reached. So your alternative would be to accurately calculate your overwrite policy based on your rate of change.

The B2D files are the same as tape. So in regards to overwrite/append policies, create one or more Media Sets that you will assign you B2D folders. Set the overwrite to a suitable value.

Hi Andrew!

We apologize for the late response.

In this case, we would suggest you to set overwrite level to partial with no
overwrite protection and no append time.

Also make sure that in Tools->Options->Media Management, you have selected media option to overwrite recycleable media first.

Thanks and regards,
