How to determine an Important file is backed up.

Purtech2

Backup Exec 2010 R2, on Server 2008. We have a large Quickbooks database. The database is not off when the  backup occurs. I want to make sure it is entirely in the  backup.

Change the logging level? How? I have checked the logs for its location. It does not say it is skipped.

-or-

Create some test restore and see if it is there? How do I do that?

Thanks,

Hello

Open the restore window and check if you are able to see the file in the list.

If the file shows up in the list it means its backed up.

You can see whether the file backed up or not, in the Media View of restore window.

For changing the logging level refer the following document..

You could also directly interrogate the Catalog file after the job using CatDump/CatTools

One comment thought if this is a database and is backed up without stopping the process that owns it then the content might be inconsistent even though a backup has taken place. Typically in backup programs (not just Backup Exec) databases have to be backed up using a correct agent/option to maintain consistency and if a database type is not supported by an agent or option then the database in question should be stopped for the backup.

As such you need to check with the database vendor for recommended backup practices to see if it is recommended to back it up 'hot' or whether you should be running pre/post job activities to stop and start the database.
