LTO 2 Ultrium

Hi,

I have installed LTO2 Ultrium on a exchange Server. The speed i am currently getting is like 15-20MB/per minute.
That is not correct.

What could be the problem. I did get a SCSI card along with the tape deive, but left the old SCSI card in the machine and hooked the new LTO drive to that SCSI card.

Could that have a impact.

Is there anything else on the old controller?

Veritas has always recommended a dedicated controller for tape drives. At the very minumum a dedicated channel

is this for local backups only or for both local and network jobs?

Hi,

Backup Exec always recommends a dedicated controller for tape drives.
-Are you getting this speed for 15-20MB/per minute Mailbox backups?
-which version of Exchange do you have ? Is it a remote server or exchange runs on the same server on which Backup Exec is installed?

Refer the technote given below :

How to correct slow backup performance, slow virus or pre-job scans, and agent initialization problems on fragmented Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows 2003 server partitions
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/237444.htm

-what is the size of that Backup Job ?

I would recommend you to upgrade on BEWS 9.1for Windows Servers revision 4691, we would suggest you download and install it using the following technotes:

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/264658.htm

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/262414.htm

# BEWS 9.1 is a free downloadable upgrade inclusive of previously installed
agents and options from Backup Exec 9.0 for Windows Servers agents and
options.

# Update all agents/options on all remote systems.

Update us on the same.

Thank you
Gauri

Hi,

This is for remote backups. I have my tape device connected to the front end Server and backup mailboxes on the backend. So it is remote backups.

But i am getting the same speed that i got for a DLT7000 tape device. I thought a LTO tape device would give me better speed. Next option would be to put the SCSI card in which i got with the new tape device.
