Login account failed to access exchange mailbox and public folder

I have a single 2003 server with veritas backup exec 9.1 and exchange 2003 server on it.
On the selection resource, when I try to select the exchange mailbox and public folder to backup by windows administrator account which I added to the veritas, it always shows me logon account failed to access microsoft exchange mail boxes. Access is denied.

I saw there is another system log on account which was left by former IT person. But I don't have the password for that account. If I change to this account, the access is also denied. Right now, there is no account can access the exchange mailbox and public folder.

Is there any way I can backup exchange mailbox and public folder?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I generally run Veritas backup exec under a seperate named account (i.e not the main logon administrator account as if the password is changed backup exec password also need to be changed) I give the account administrators and domain administrator rights and make sure it has a mailbox in the store you are trying to backup.

If this is what you currently have and it still doesn't work then I would try deleting the account and setting it up again.

I have the same problem:

I have this problem since one week, it worked for two years before so I don't really know what the real problem is.

In the job log it gives me an error: a000848c - Unable to attach to one of the drives

When I try to edit the selection list I can uncheck the mailboxes and public folders, but when I want to check it back then get a pop-up windows with this:

Login account failed to access exchange mailbox and public folder.

Please let me know if anyone has an idea.
