Hi,

I am looking at migrating our backup server from Arcserve ver 12.5 to Symantec Backup Exec.

Is there any kind of documentation that I can take a look at to faciliate this process?

Thanks!

There is no specific official document about migrating from ArcServe to Backup Exec. Infact migration in regards to settings, jobs, Media sets and all is not possible because these two softwares uses completely different databases and work on very different architecture.

The best possible thing to do is install Backup Exec and then setup all the settings newly for efficient performance.

Thanks,

Just another question. Is is possible that we install the Symantec Backup Exec on the same server where the Arcserve resides?

It is not recomended to install both the software on the same server. However you can use same tapes to restore data using Backup Exec.

Please check out the links below,

Yes it is possible to install both the products on the same server. But Its not recommended to do it.

If you are thinking to keep them together in intial testing phase then its Fine. Also ensure that when backup of one software is running the other one is completely disabled.
