NTBackup 10 times faster than BE???

Hello All,
I am running Windows 2000 Server with SP4, Exchange 2000, Mcafee groupshield, and BE 9.1.

The backup job is not using AOFO, and I have followed the Veritas recommendations for improving backup performance.

The tape drive is a Compaq AIT 35GB IDE. I have run a cleaning tape, and upgraded the firmware, and am using the latest drivers.

The performance with BE is about 10MB a minute, but with NTbackup it is about 100MB a minute. BE takes days to complete a 40GB job, so we have to use NTBackup instead - does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you in advance for your efforts.

Hello,

For an explaination as to why the backup operations may take a long time, please go through the following technotes:
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/231488.htm

There are many causes which result in the backup taking a long time to complete. To resolve the issue we would suggest you to go through the following links:
What VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) settings can be modified to reduce the amount of time it takes for a backup to run?

How to correct slow backup performance, slow virus or pre-How to correct slow backup performance, slow virus or pre-job scans, and agent initialization problems on fragmented Windows NT,Windows 2000, and Windows 2003 server partitions http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/237444.htm

Also make sure that the anti virus programmes and any third party softwares are not running during the backup job operation.

Also verify that your changer has a lower SCSI ID than other devices (do not assign it 0,1 or 6).
