Norton Antivirus 2005 and Desktop & Backup Option - Savrt.sys Blue Screen

Blue Screen Crash with Norton Antivirus 2005 and Desktop Backup Agent.

Norton Antivirus 2005 is not compatible with the Backup Exec Desktop Agent. When the Agent is backing up files to the server from a workstation, a blue screen error in savrt.sys can occur.

You must then boot into safe mode and rename the following file: C:\Program Files\Norton Antivirus\Savrt.sys
Then either Norton Antivirus 2005 or Desktop Agent must be uninstalled.

See:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/5faa3ca6df6f549888256edd0061c0a4/1ea76e2ae907515d88256f2e004680c2?OpenDocument∏=Norton%20AntiVirus&ver=2005&src=sg&pcode=nav&svy=&csm=no

The workaround in the Symantec article is worthless, since there is no log entry in Event Viewer.

Veritas, Will this issue be resolved?

Does NAV 2005 have an option to not scan files open for backup?

If you are BSOD in savrt.sys - why is this Veritas' problem?

No, norton does not have that option.

It's both a Symantec and Veritas problem.

The BSOD occurs only if the Desktop and Laptop agent is installed. All workstations that have Norton AV 2005 and the Desktop Agent get the BSOD in savrt.sys. This error occurs when the Veritas agent is backing files to the server. It doesn't happen right way, but it happen eventually. The workstation with the BSOD will not reboot unless the file savrt.sys is renamed in safe mode.

There is a serious conflict between Norton Antivirus 2005 and The Desktop and Laptop Agent.

This needs to be resolved by Veritas and Symantec.
