Oracle 8 and Exchange 2007

A customer who has been using all versions of Backup Exec since 7.3 has
upgraded their Exchange to 2007 and is now testing Backup Exec 11d.
Their "Core business application" is running on Oracle 8.
Is there a supported Agent configuration to make Online backups of
Oracle 8 or must the customer turn to a competitor to backup
both Exchange 2007 and Oracle 8 in the same application?

Best Regards
Johan

Please review the Software Compatability List.

Symantec Backup Exec 11d (11.0) for Windows Servers - Software Compatibility List (SCL)

Software compatability list says yes, provided you're not using IPV6 or Linux on the Oracle server, Oracle is not the 32 bit version running on a 64 bit OS, and you are using BE build 7170.

Hi,

SCL says Oracle 8i
Does this include 8.0?

I believe that the i in Oracle 8i is like the d in Backup Exec 11d.
I.e. it was added by the marketing people and means nothing!

Has anyone been able to verify that this is a supported or Non Supported Application in BENT 11d

Thanks

Well the 11D/12.0/12.5 SCLs specifically state

Oracle 8.1.7 is the only version of Oracle 8i supported.
In the footnotes to the comment about Oracle 8 support.
As such 8.0.x is not supported.

And 10D is the last SCL that mentions Oracle 8.0 but 10D does not support Exchange 2007
So I guess you will need 2 different media servers

Although you might also want to bear in mind that Backup Exec 10D was marked as End-of-Standard support in May this year.
So there will be no further development and Symantec support can only assist with searching for documented/known solutions
