Oracle Backup - Directory Not Found error

Hi All,

The problem I am experiencing is using BE 9.1 backing up an Oracle 9i database on a Windows 2000 server. Unfortunately, all backups we run on the DB fail.

I have created a seperate job to try and see what the problem is. I can see the Oracle Database in the Selections list and open the tablespaces beneath it, hopefully indicating that there is no problem with the Remote Agent.

However, when I run the backup, I receive the following error -

"Directory not found. Cannot backup directory *** and its sub-directories"

I've seached the Veritias technotes, which state that this may be due to the presence of non-standard characters in the tablespace names, which is not the case with us.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks in advance,

Hello Dilan,

The Backup Exec for Windows NT Oracle Agent attempts to log into each tablespace as it backs up the Oracle Database. If some of the tablespaces are attaching, but not all of them, some of them may be inaccessible. The "directory not found" error message can be caused by an Oracle Database being locked in the Hot Backup mode causing the tablespaces for that database to become inaccessible.

Refer the following Technotes to resolve the issue.

Hope this helps.

Hi there,

Yes, it seemed to be related to the fact that ArchiveLog mode on the Oracle Database had been disabled, as stated in article;

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/191118.htm

Once we re-enabled this function, we were able to take hot backups without issue.

Thanks for the help.
