Oracle Database files report "in use"

I have Veritas 10.1 runninng on a Win2003 server. I have the RALUS agent running on a Redhat 4 AS server. I use a CRON job to shutdown and start the database for the backup window. I have had good backups for 30+ days. Suddenly (the last 3 days), the backup will record files from the Redhat server, but all 436 .dbf (database files) were skipped - reported "in use".

No changes were made to the CRON job, I had not visited the backup job (only check the logs). My database shutdown and startup logs report the database was shutdown - this was verified by our DBA services.

Need a backup...

Forgot to add... Non database files were recorded in each backup job. It was only the .dbf files that were skipped.
