Problems with Two types of Dell LTO/2 drives

Paul_Draper
Level 2

Have Windows Small Business Server 2003 running BE 10.0.5484 SP6.

Have run with Dell LTO/2 drive (Certance type) for 1 year. Have now bought second Dell LTO/2 drive that is in fact a Tandberg drive.

Tandberg drive is recocgnised by BE and runs single drive jobs no probelms.

Created cascaded Drive pool with the two drives and jobs will not overflow from one to the other. Tape 1 runs on the Certance and then the system asks for another tape in the same drive despite valid tape being in the Tandberg.

On system stratup get the following for the Tandberg drive:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Backup Exec
Event Category: Devices
Event ID: 33152

Read Mode: SingleBlock(0), ScsiPass(0)
Write Mode: SingleBlock(1), ScsiPass(1)

Drivers:

Certance Drive drvmcdb.sys (veritas) 3.20.61a , halfinch.sys (veritas) 5.01

Tandberg Dtive drvmcdb.sys(veritas) 3.20.61a, tnbg_lto.sys (Tandberg Data) 1.7.0.0

Also one or two other things make it look as if drivers/device not supplying full info to BE.  The default configuration settings for the Tandberg drive are Block 1K, Buffer 32K. Buffer count 10, High water 7 where as the Certance is 64K, 64K 10 ,0
