We had a major malfunction where the server had to be rebuilt. We need to re-install Symantec 12.5 so we can recover a pupils work. Then we are going to upgrade to veritas 2016.

I believe the oldest version of Backup Exec which can be directly upgraded to Backup Exec 16 is Backup Exec 2010.  The version you are running (12.5) is older than 2010.

So, 2 ways to do this: 1. Reinstall BE 12.5, recover the work, and then do a multistage upgrade to BE 16 by upgrading to BE 2010 R3 with all the patches, and then to BE 16; 2. Install BE 2010 R3 and restore the work before doing a straight upgrade. I've restored BE 12.5 (and 11d) data before using BE 2010 R3 so it is possible. Plus it cuts out a step and time in the mix too. Thanks!
